Modern Warfare 2 PC: Just got Far Worse!
Friday 06 November 2009 - 14:13:52
well, i can only say, OMG.

Most of you already know this, but Infinity Ward announced that there will be no dedicated servers for the PC version of the game. That alone was surely enough for me, and alot more people to cancel any preorder of the game.

Now after a transcript from a developerchat with BestBuy which can be found here

but for the sake of the lazy, going by this transcript there is alot more questionable changes made to ModernWarfare 2.

GeneralClean: With the new IW.net, how many players can it support at one time with each server set-up, 8 vs 8, 12 vs 12, 16 vs 16, and how much bandwidth are we talking about per player basis, Upload and Download?
Vince-IW: 9v9
Mackey-IW: The max number of players on all platforms are 1v1 through 9v9. This is the number of players we focused on when we were balancing map size, perks, classes, challenges, etc.

Laugh: Is there a console in the PC version of the game, so we can change our field of view from the xbox's default 65 FOV to 80 also can we tweaks the weapon damage for each gun, removes perks, graphical debris, breathing sway, also thru console like we where able to before or is this all gone?
Vince-IW: We would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it.

In other words no, no and no. no console, no way to kick griefers or cheaters or exploiters. well doesnt MW2 get so much better the more you read the transcript?

maniac1969: How are PC gaming clans going to uphold their clan rules in the IW-net system? Are you going to give admin rights to gaming rooms so that admins can Kick or Ban players who refuse to follow clan rules? For example, {MRoA} servers prohibit racial comments from guest and/or clan members...
Mackey-IW: In response to the PC clan question: Private matches are a way for players to easily play with their friends and apply whatever House Rules they want. You can not kick players from Ranked matches. If language is a problem you can easily mute players.

so no kicking? i guess griefers win now? and i dont just mean verbal griefers! all maps come with exploits guess you cant stop people using them now.

TheNinthAxis: Is there lean in PC multiplayer.
Vince-IW: No.

no lean either a bit weird, but at time of writing cant say i recall lean in MW1?

frzg: Is there a /record feature? Answer yes... please. We're trying to give you a 'chance'

Vince-IW: no

Oh quite possibly my favourite part of the transcript :). no more recording except with Fraps at the time of play.

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

and Just... well um i dont know what to say to the last part, No is the reply yet the rest of the statement describes almost all Console ports, and even then they are very simplistic features that have been used to death in PC games, hardly an acceptible response to saying No its not a port.

Please do leave some comments on your opinion and whether your cancelling your MW2 order.

Modern Warfare 2 PC: No Dedicated Servers
Tuesday 20 October 2009 - 01:11:27
blunt copy n paste taken from here

PC gamers won't like this.

One of the greatest things about PC gaming is that people can set up dedicated servers for multiplayer matches. None of that silly peer to peer stuff that might give the host an advantage, not to mention that dedicated servers typically have connections that are capable of supporting a greater number of players with smooth and stable results.

Unfortunately, it seems that Modern Warfare 2 won't be having any of that. Joystiq heard on the from Infinity Ward's Ryan Bowling on the Bash and Slash podcast that matchmaking within Modern Warfare 2 would be reliant on proprietary server technology (called IWNet), and wouldn't allow users to host their own dedicated servers.

While those playing COD4 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 have plenty of fun without the need for dedicated servers, there's still a lot to be said for having dedicated clan or local servers where everybody knows your name.
